Project Scope: High-Tech Turnkey Greenhouse with Advanced Humidity Control
The Challenge
A commercial grower in Abu Dhabi aimed to produce high-quality leafy greens and vine vegetables for the local retail market. In the UAE, traditional cooling pads often struggle during the high-humidity months of August and September, as the air is already too saturated for evaporation to take place. The client required a solution that could maintain a stable 24–26°C environment despite external conditions hitting 50°C and 80% humidity.
Our Solution: The “Precision Climate” Engineering
Through our presence in the UAE and our network of several specialized companies, we delivered a project designed for the Gulf’s unique humidity profile:
Hybrid Cooling System: We combined traditional evaporative cooling pads with high-pressure dry-fogging. During dry desert winds, the pads provide bulk cooling; during high-humidity periods, the high-pressure misting system takes over to fine-tune the temperature without oversaturating the plants.
UV-Blocking Plastic & Motorized Shading: We utilized a specialized 200-micron film that filters out harmful UV rays while allowing maximum PAR (Photosynthetic Active Radiation). This was paired with an internal aluminum-coated thermal screen that reflects heat during the day and traps warmth on winter nights.
Vertical Airflow (V-Fans): To prevent “dead zones” and humidity pockets at the leaf level, we installed vertical circulation fans. These fans push air downwards through the crop canopy, preventing fungal growth and strengthening plant stems.
Recirculating Hydroponics (NFT): Given the water scarcity in the UAE, we installed a closed-loop Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) system. All irrigation water is filtered, chilled, and reused, resulting in a 90% water saving compared to traditional open-field farming.
The Result
Market Advantage: The facility achieved consistent production during the “off-season” (July–September), allowing the client to sell at premium prices when imports were limited.
Superior Quality: 98% of the harvest met international export standards for size, color, and taste.
Resource Efficiency: The farm used 50% less water than traditional greenhouse setups in the region due to the precision climate control and water recycling.
